SWAINSBORO, Ga. -- Mr. John W. Hooks, 95, of Church Street, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Swainsboro Primitive Baptist Church with the Revs. Lee Chambers, Tommy Rountree and William Claxton officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, Lexsy.
Mr. Hooks, a native of Worth County, had retired as a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of Emanuel County Farm Bureau and Swainsboro Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lilie Mae Hooks; two sons, J.W. Hooks and Wendel Hooks, both of Swainsboro; five daughters, Jane Brewer, Swainsboro, Jo Ann Portwood, Macon, Bonnie Veal, Dallas, Glada Harrell, Kings, N.C., and Carolyn Chatham, Marietta; a stepson, Johnny Roberson, North Carolina; and 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Portwood, Glen Portwood, John Portwood, William Portwood, Keith Hooks, Scott Chatham, Jeb Chatham and Chad Harrell.
Memorials may be made to Swainsboro Primitive Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Tomlinson Funeral Home.
