Jefferson edges Toombs for state title



LOUISVILLE, Ga. -- Thomas Battle's interception of a attempted 2-point conversion pass sealed Thomas Jefferson Academy's victory over Robert Toombs in the GISA Class A championship game on Friday night.

Toombs scored with 2:25 left in the game to cut the Jefferson led to 13-12. Electing to go for the victory instead of kicking the PAT for the tie, Toombs went for the 2-point conversion.

Jefferson built a 13-0 lead with touchdowns in the first and third quarters. Toombs scored both its touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Jefferson, 10-2, scored on John Kelly's 43 yard touchdown pass from Brent Jones and Kevin Frost's 1 yard run. Frost was successful on the 2-point conversion run after the first touchdown. The kick for the PAT failed after the second score.

Frost led the Jaguars in rushing with 92 yards on 22 carries.
