Mr. Tyrus Thompson



SWAINSBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Tyrus R. Thompson, 75, of 528 Barbara Ave., died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Augusta.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Norristown, with the Revs. Burch Beckum and Emory Fennell officiating.

Mr. Thompson, a native of Emanuel County, had lived in Swainsboro for 15 years and was a former Wadley resident. He had retired as a merchant and businessman in Wadley. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II and a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Smith Thompson; a son, George R. Thompson, Swainsboro; three daughters, Barbara Warnock, Dublin, Pamela Franklin, Waynesboro, and Lucresia Sapp, Swainsboro; two brothers, Harley L. Thompson, Spartanburg, S.C., and Ralph Thompson, Atlanta; three sisters, Betty Elrod, Goldsboro, N.C., Imogene James, Virginia Beach, Va., and Sarah Barfield, Atlanta; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Don Braswell, Tyson Stephens, Bruce Spearman, Arthur Lee Danford, Dave Hunter, Ezra Price, Johnny Thompson, Bryan Frederick, Kent Hunter and Joe Jackson.

Friends may call at the residence, or after 1 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home.
