While the battle for last place in the Southeastern Conference East Division takes place today in Nashville, Tenn., Augusta will get its own taste of college football -- albeit for last place in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Morris Brown (2-5, 0-3 SIAC) takes on Morehouse (0-8, 0-4) in the sixth annual CSRA Classic at Lumpkin Road Stadium at today at 2 p.m. Last year's matchup between the two teams was decided on a last-second field goal as Morris Brown freshman kicker Henry Boynton kicked a 19-yarder for a 17-16 victory over Morehouse.
According to Georgia State Senator Charles Walker(D-Augusta), an estimated 10,000 people are expected for the game.
After the game, a step show will take place at Augusta State University's Athletic Complex at 8 p.m.
While Morehouse remains winless on the year, the Maroon Tigers have lost five games by 14 points or less. Morehouse is fourth in the SIAC in turnover margin. Also, the Maroon Tigers lead the conference in punt returns with a 19.4-yard average.
On defense, Randy Roberts leads the SIAC with 75 tackles and also has two interceptions. On punt returns, Shaun Caldwell leads Morehouse with a 30.3 average.
Passing offense is the biggest difference between these two teams. Morris Brown leads the SIAC with 239.3 yards per game, while Morehouse scrapes the bottom with 73.6 yards per game.
The Wolverines are led by freshman quarterback Kewan Dewberry, last week's SIAC Newcomer of the Week. Against Benedict College, Dewberry completed 23 of 36 passes for 352 yards and four touchdowns.
Dewberry will hook up with Brelon Jones, the SIAC's leading receiver. Through seven games, Jones has 39 receptions for 645 yards and six touchdowns.
