HOUSTON -- Mark McGwire set another record on Saturday.
McGwire drew his 152nd walk of the season off Randy Johnson in the third inning of the St. Louis Cardinals' game against the Houston Astros, surpassing the National League mark set in 1996 by Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants.
McGwire took a called third strike on a full count in the first inning and was 1-for-10 since his historic 62nd home run on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs' Steve Trachsel. He walked on a full count to start the third.
McGwire needs 18 walks in the last 14 games to tie Babe Ruth's major-league record of 170 walks in 1923. Ted Williams is the only other player with more walks in a season than McGwire, with 162 in 1947 and 1949 and 156 in 1942.
