Urges protest against 'phone taxes' 090798 - The Augusta Chronicle

It was certainly pleasing to see your Sept. 1 editorial "Slash phone `taxes."'

We received our phone bill Aug. 17 and I called (the phone company) the same day. In discussing this with a company representative, she said we would have to pay the Federal Communications Commission charges if we continued our service. I advised her to disconnect our phone for we would not continue our service since these new charges were only new taxes.

As consumers we are being taxed by too many different governmental agencies as it is.

Hopefully, after others read your editorial they will contact members of Congress, the Public Service Commission candidates and the FCC as well.
