Sumter turns back Aiken



SUMTER, S.C. -- Sumter's Jamacia Jackson rushed for 165 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Gamecocks to a 29-15 victory over Aiken in the season opener for both teams Friday night.

The Hornets held a 9-6 lead at halftime but Jackson exploded for three touchdowns after the intermission, including runs of 60 and 43 yards. Aiken travels to Georgia Class AAAA powerhouse Colquitt County on Friday.

Wagener-Salley avenged a 32-12 defeat in last year's season opener to Ridge Spring-Monetta by clipping the Trojans 12-7 on Friday night.

The War Eagles defense limited the Trojans to one first-half touchdown, a 49-yard run by Leonard Cyrus, and got the game winning score in the third quarter when Chuck Burkett found Shamus Coleman for a 40-yard touchdown pass play.

The Trojans travel to Saluda on Friday, while Wagener-Salley plays host to Swansea.
