The Rev. John Wesley DeLay, 87, of 132 Hickory Drive, Martinez, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at Magnolia Hill, Augusta.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. Gwendolyn Smith officiating.
The Rev. DeLay, a native of Atlanta, had lived in Augusta since 1981. He was a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, New Orleans, and Stetson University, Deland, Fla. He had retired after 34 years as a Baptist minister from his last posting at First Baptist Church, Miami, and after 25 years as a teacher on the Dade County Board of Public Instruction. He had been head of the mission program of First Baptist Church, Miami. He also was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta.
Survivors include a son, Farris DeLay, Fayetteville, N.C.; a daughter, Vivian Julia Naglieri, Martinez; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
