BELVEDERE -- Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Chavous, 63, of 606 Kershaw Drive, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, in Augusta.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home, North Augusta, with the Rev. Richard C. Trucks officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens, North Augusta.
Mrs. Chavous, a native of Augusta, was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Her family said she was a knowledgeable, yet reserved, self-sacrificing person to her family. She was the true definition of a mother. We will miss her deeply.
Survivors include her husband, Hiram Lawton Chavous; a son, Clifton Edward Morgan, North Augusta; six daughters, Mary Frances Cato, Della Rebecca Howard and Betsy Sue Barton, all of North Augusta, Laura Cassie Martin, Augusta, Elizabeth Delilah Anderson, Salem, Ore., and Millie Louise Chavous, Belvedere; three brothers, Dallas Simon and Mark Simon, both of Augusta, and Harold Simon, Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Pat Cain, Aiken; and 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Joey Mellon, Robert Cain, Anthony Barton, Michael Raffield, Steve Cain and Mark Howard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
