If you want to see Mark McGwire take batting practice, be sure you're at Turner Field today.
McGwire comes to Atlanta for a weekend series. However, today could be the only time he takes batting practice. The major-league home run leader is scheduled to take batting practice with the St. Louis Cardinals at 6:10 p.m., today before the scheduled 7:40 p.m., start of the series opener.
Because afternoon starts are scheduled for Saturday (1:15 p.m., Fox-54) and Sunday (1:10 p.m., WTBS), there is a good chance there will be no visiting batting practice outdoors before the game. Many teams warm up in indoors batting cages before afternoon games, when they are available.
McGwire will talk with Atlanta-area media today at approximately 3:30 p.m., the only time he talks to the press pre-game during a series.
All three games of the series are sold out. But a limited number of standing room only and $1 tickets, good for seats in the upper deck down the left-and right-field foul lines, go on sale before the game.
