National Geographic makes 3-D splash

WASHINGTON -- The venerable National Geographic magazine is trying something new in its August edition -- 3-D photos, including the cover.

The cover shows the rover Sojourner on the surface of Mars, and inside the magazine a series of 3-D photos illustrate articles on Mars and on the undersea remains of the Titanic.

It's the first 3-D cover for the magazine, which has a pair of special lenses stapled inside.

There's also a 3-D advertisement.
