Lankford hits 12th homer in Jackets romp



ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Derrick Lankford blasted his 12th homer of the year and John Garbow struck out eight as the Augusta GreenJackets stopped the Asheville Tourists 7-1 on Friday.

In addition to the two-run homer in the sixth inning, Lankford had two other hits and another RBI.

The left-handed Grabow, 2-2, went five innings and gave up six hits. Paul Stabile, who went the final four innings to earn his first save, held the Tourists scoreless until allowing a run in the ninth. He gave up two hits in his stint.

The victory breaks a two-game losing streak for Augusta, 15-7 in the second half of the South Atlantic League season.

Game two of the four-game set is scheduled for tonight.
