SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mr. Lorin S. Stegins Jr., a former city councilman and retired probate judge, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sylvania First United Methodist Church with the Rev. B. Sonny Mason officiating. Burial will be in Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Stegins, a native of Screven County, was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a former employee of the Bank of Screven County and of Farmers and Merchants Bank. He became publisher and manager of the Screven County newspaper in 1968 and ran it until it merged with The Sylvania Telephone.
He was elected to a 12-year term as probate judge, and served eight years as a Sylvania city councilman. He was a former member of the Sylvania Lions Club, Woodmen of the World and Sylvania Masonic Lodge 301. He was a member of Sylvania First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorinet S. Swailes, Savannah; a sister, Hilda S. Lariscy, Sylvania; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Robert Pinckney, Ray Reynolds, Mike Brinson, Bobby Lambert, Jamie Collins, Michael Collins and Ted Waters.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.
