LOUISVILLE, Ga. -- Mr. Moses "Joe" McGruder, 53, of 1036 Paschal St., died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jones Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Dudley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. McGruder, a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, had retired as a welder from Thermo King Corp. after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Home Mission Society, Businessmen's Club and Jones Grove Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board and was treasurer of the Youth Department, a youth adviser and a member of the missionary board. He was ordained as a deacon in March 1987.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Heggs McGruder; five sons, Anthony McGruder, Wrens, Fredrick McGruder and Rico McGruder, both of Louisville, Christopher McGruder, Queens, N.Y., and Lee Upton, Atlanta; a stepdaughter, Sherry Denise Smith, Louisville; six sisters, Annie Dorthy McGruder, Shirley Pierce, Shawand Bostic and Eloise Smith, all of Louisville, and Ann Dixon and Angela McGruder, both of Augusta; a brother, Lindsey McGruder Jr., Hephzibah; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Thompson Jr., Darron Cobb, Michael McGruder, Lindsey McGruder III, Gregory McGruder and Larry Newman.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of Jones Grove Baptist Church and deacons of Jefferson County churches.
