Police continue search for suspect in robberies

Authorities in three counties are seeking a 20-year-old Augusta man suspected in several crimes that ended in a police chase in Martinez on Tuesday evening.

Donnie L. Wright Jr. of River Oak Road is wanted by police for his alleged involvement in two armed robberies at businesses in Aiken and Columbia counties, and a car-jacking and kidnapping of a woman from the Target parking lot in Richmond County, according to a police spokesmen.

Police believe it was Mr. Wright -- described as 6 feet, 3 inches tall and 185 pounds -- who forced a woman at gunpoint into her car in the Target parking lot and had her to drive to the Springlakes subdivision in Martinez.

The woman was released unharmed, and Mr. Wright allegedly rejoined his accomplice, Demery White, in a white Oldsmobile, said Richmond County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Ronald Strength.

Columbia County authorities arrested Mr. Lewis, 20, of Langley Court on Tuesday after a 10 minute chase through Martinez, which ended at the entrance to the Maple Creek subdivision on Columbia Road.

The two men also are suspected in a Saturday armed robbery at Martinez Self-Serve Car Wash on Washington Road, Columbia County Sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said.

Police believe Mr. Wright robbed a car wash customer of his wallet at gunpoint and escaped in a car matching the description of the white Oldsmobile Cutlass.

The two are also suspects in a similar robbery attempt at a North Augusta car wash Tuesday afternoon, according to Lt. Frank Warchol of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.
