To the best of our knowledge, Greenbrier High School is the only school in the nation ever to win back-to-back titles in a major sport in the first two years of its existence.
Yet this is precisely what the Wolfpack achieved when it ate up Madison County in two straight games, thus repeating as Georgia's Class AAA baseball champions. We congratulate the team on its singular accomplishment.
Only two years old, and already the Columbia County school has a winning tradition that could go on indefinitely, especially if Terry Holder -- arguably the state's best high school baseball coach ever -- doesn't retire.
Holder, 52, has 498 career wins and seven state titles in 23 years of coaching, first at Evans High and then at Greenbrier. All seven of those titles have come in the last 11 years.
Retire at 52? Say it ain't so, coach.
