Don Smith of Yankton, S.D., has been named Western Slope Group publisher by William S. Morris III, chairman and chief executive officer of Augusta-based Morris Communications Corp. He will assume his new duties Friday.
Mr. Smith will be responsible for Morris publications in western Colorado.
Mr. Smith, former publisher of the Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan and the Vermillion (S.D.) Plain Talk, will now manage daily operations of one daily and three nondaily Colorado newspapers: the Glenwood Post (Glenwood Springs), The Eagle Valley Enterprise (Eagle), The Citizen Telegram (Rifle) and The Valley Journal (Carbondale); and one free community paper, the Bargain Hunter (Glenwood Springs).
"Don Smith has extensive experience and an impressive track record with community newspapers," Mr. Morris said. "He is an excellent choice for local management of this fast-paced, high-growth Colorado market."
Morris Communications Corp. is the parent company of Southeastern Newspapers Corp., publisher of The Augusta Chronicle.
