With its green vinyl tablecloths, the Seafood Palace in North Augusta looks more like a roadside diner than a castle. But it has king crab for $9.99.
At the brick-front building on the Aiken-Augusta Highway you can get all-you-can-eat catfish every day the door is open. In the front paneled foyer there's a picture of entertainer James Brown and some shots of his daughter Deanna. She co-owns the restaurant with her husband, Shawn Thomas.
The main dining room is a little dark, but that adds to the shine on the pearlized ceramic fish centerpieces next to the tarter sauce on every table. Below a portrait of a yellow perch is the salad bar, with everything from fresh strawberries to canned fruit salad.
"Most seafood places you can only afford to eat once every two weeks. Here you can afford to eat twice a week," Mr. Thomas says. "You can feed a family of four for $25."
His most popular dinner is a plate of 25 medium-size fresh breaded shrimp served with coleslaw, hush puppies and fries for $5. The seafood buffet and salad bar is $5.99. But if you're not feeling like something fishy there are chicken tenders, steaks and hot dogs. Most meals are $5 to $8.99.
The Seafood Palace caters weddings, family reunions and banquets. It is currently in the process of franchising the restaurant.
