Pierson named Lynx assistant general manager

Former Tallahassee Tiger Sharks promotions director Mike Pierson has been named assistant general manager of the Augusta Lynx, general manager Paul Gamsby said Wednesday.

The 27-year-old Pierson, a Pensacola, Fla., native and Florida State alumnus, spent the past three years with the Tiger Sharks, one of the most successful franchises in the East Coast Hockey League.

Pierson also worked in a similar capacity for the Tallahassee Scorpions, a professional indoor soccer team in the upstart Eastern Indoor Soccer League, owned and operated by Tiger Sharks owner Terry Christensen.

"Mike is impressive. We're very lucky to have someone with his experience coming to work for us," Gamsby said.

With the Lynx, Pierson will coordinate promotions, handle game-night operations, and oversee public and media relations.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to take the next step in my career, and I'm excited about coming to Augusta and being a part of teaching people about the game of hockey," Pierson said.

Also this week, renovations to the Lynx' offices in the Bell Auditorium were completed, and staff members moved into their new digs Sunday.

Since Gamsby was hired in January, he and his staff had been working from a tiny office in the theater lobby.
