Bass tournament news

Sponsoring a bass, crappie, catfish or other fishing tournament? Mail or fax your flyer or information to Outdoor Editor, The Augusta Chronicle, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, Ga. 30903-1928. Tournament reports MUST BE MADE during the month they are held and include first and last names of the participants, total number of fish caught and total weight of the catch.

River Rats Bass Club Open Team Tournament
March 21 results
Fort Gordon Recreation Area

Barry Frazier and Kenny Miles, 22.11 pounds; Majors Hamby and Ricky Newman, 18.14 pounds; Hubbard and Hubbard, 18.09 pounds. Big fish: Miller and Miller, 6.09 pounds. The tournament drew 56 teams.

Guaranteed $2,000 purse, with $750 to first-place team, $500 to second, $300 to third, $250 to fourth and $200 to fifth. Big fish pot: Half to first big fish, half to second big fish.

Creel limit is eight fish per team with a 12-inch minimum size. Entry fee is $80 per team and it includes a big fish award of $20 per team. Late entries accepted at the ramp on tournament day prior to 7 a.m. blastoff. Weigh-in at 3 p.m. Trophies awarded to top three teams and for biggest bass. Inaugural John de la Howe School
Open Team Tournament, Sunday, April 26

Guaranteed purse $1,000. Entry fee $60 per team ($70 at landing), $10 optional big fish pot. Sponsored by John de la Howe School Alumni Association and Modoc Bassmasters. Twin Cities Bass Club, First Benefit Tournament
Fort Gordon Recreation Area on May 2

$1,000 first place prize, two big fish pots. 90 percent payback (one place for every 10 boats). Entry fee $50 with $10 optional big fish pot fee. Proceeds to benefit Belvedere-North Augusta Rescue Squad. Tournament hours 6:30 a.m. (or safe light) until 3 p.m.

Pre-registration and drawing will be held April 30 at Belvedere Marine, 6:30 to 8 p.m., with door prizes, refreshments and snacks. Late registration at Fort Gordon Recreation Area 5 a.m. to 6 a.m., with no entries accepted after 6 a.m. All boats must be in the water by 6 a.m.

Don Kohli, five bass, 12 pounds, 10 ounces. Freddie Todd, three bass, 8 pounds, 12 ounces. Greg Grant, five bass, 7 pounds, 10 ounces. Big fish: Lester Clark, 5 pounds, 5 ounces. Eleven fishermen caught 22 bass weighing 51 pounds, 6 ounces and all were released alive.

Harvey Kirkland, five bass, 14 pounds, 9 ounces. Ricky Newman and David Bostick, five bass each, 13 pounds, 5 ounces. Big fish: Kelvin Hartwell, 5 pounds, 7 ounces. Fourteen fishermen caught 58 bass weighing 128 pounds, 2 ounces and all were released alive.

Lamond Annas, five bass, 19 pounds, 7 ounces. Darle Opalewski, five bass, 17 pounds. Billy Freeman, five bass, 14 pounds, 12 ounces. Big fish: Lamond Annas, 7 pounds, 11 ounces. Seventeen fishermen caught 57 bass weighing 126 pounds, 4 ounces and all were released.

Donald Miller, five bass, 16 pounds, 9 ounces. Ron Brown, five bass, 15 pounds, 14 ounces. Tommy Shaw, five bass, 14 pounds, 7 ounces. Big fish: Ron Brown, 5 pounds, 15 ounces. Ten fishermen caught 42 bass totaling 112 pounds, 12 ounces and all were released alive.

Joey Zielinski, five bass, 17 pounds. Glynn Hicks, four bass, 12 pounds, 3 ounces. Bill McKie, five bass, 11 pounds, 5 ounces. Big fish: Zielinski, 4 pounds, 14 ounces. Ten fishermen caught 26 bass weighing 60 pounds, 14 ounces and all were released.

Wednesday Night Open Team at Lake Springs

Jack Keane and Jim Kirkham, five bass, 17 pounds, 13 ounces. C.G. Doolittle and David Whyte, five bass, 14 pounds, 7 ounces. Big fish: Doolittle and White, 4 pounds, 7 ounces.

Tournaments run through Sept. 9, with the Classic on Sept. 12. Entry fee is $22 per boat (including big fish), fishing hours are 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and entrants can register 30 minutes before blastoff at the Lake Springs ramp. More information from Jack Keane, 541-0802 (res.), 731-6034 (beeper).
