Outdoors calendar

Announcements for participatory events must be written, delivered, mailed or faxed to The Augusta Chronicle, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, Ga. 30903-1928, with a return address and phone number. No phone calls will be accepted. Fax number: (706) 823-3408.

The announcements will be published each Sunday, and must be in the office by the Thursday prior to publication.


Registration will be held each Saturday during February for Martinez-Evans Little League, T-Ball, machine pitch, boys baseball and girls fast-pitch softball at Hometown Sports from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. More information: 855-8736.

Feb. 14, 21, 28:

Masters City Little League will hold baseball and softball registration on those days from 9 1.m. to 5 p.m. for boys and girls 5 to 18. More information: Steve Justice, 793-8938, or 592-6284.

Feb. 15:

Registration for West Augusta Little League (ages 5-15) will be held at Garrett Elementary School Cafeteria on Eisenhower Drive. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Coaches are needed at all levels, too. More information: 738-0797 after 5 p.m.

Feb. 2-27:

Columbia County Recreation Department will hold youth baseball and softball registration. Sessions are at Patriots Park Monday through Friday from 8 a.m., to 5 p.m., Feb. 2-13 and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Feb. 16-27. Special registration will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m. More information: 863-7523.

City of Aiken is looking for people interested in officiating youth baseball (9-10-year-olds). You must be at least 17 to apply. Also wanted are umpires 18 and older to umpire Dixie Baseball (11-18). A Dixie Baseball umpires meeting will be held at Citizens Park from 6:30 p.m., to 8:45 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 10. More information on Dixie Baseball umpiring: Stephen Gavin, (803) 648-4240. Feb. 21:

Girls 12 to 15 years old to play AAU/YBOA basketball during the spring and summer. Girls 12-15 also wanted for a 5 on 5 spring league from March through May in South Augusta. More information about both: Phillip Morris, (706) 793-7513.

3 on 3 Basketball League play for ages 8-10 and 11-14 will be held at Graniteville (S.C.) Recreation Center on March 7, 14 and 21. Games start at 2 p.m. Each team will have a maximum five players. Feb. 12:

Athletic Stretching is the topic of a seminar cosponsored by the Augusta Boxing Club and Medical College of Georgia Sports Medicine at the club, 1929 Walton Way, at 5 p.m. The seminar is open to the public and other athletic organizations. More information: Tom Moraetes, 733-7533.

March 13-15:

13th annual Invitational and seventh annual Mr. Perry's Pro-Am, The Club at Jones Creek, Evans, Ga. Pro-am entry fee $75 for pros and amateurs. Invitational entry fee $125 per player. One-day Pro-Am is Friday, March 13, with Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

March 27:

March 30:

Second annual Aiken County CSRA Classic tournament at Midland Valley Country Club. Four-man captain's choice format. Shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Awards given for top three places. April 23-25:

June 25:

Glenn Hills High Mike Stephenson Memorial, Goshen Plantation Country Club. Captain's choice format. Tee time 1 p.m. Entry fees $200 per team, $50 per individual, includes golf and dinner. Partial proceeds go to Mike Stephenson Scholarship Fund. Registration deadline June 15. Horse shoes

Feb. 21:

Horse Creek Horseshoe Tournament, open age division (two players make up a team), double elimination (best 2 of 3 games). Tournament starts at 9 a.m., Harrison-Caver Park, Highway 421, Clearwater, S.C. Entry fee $30 per team (includes two T-shirts). Trophies to top three teams, trophy for most ringers and medals to team that shuts out its opponent. Games consist of 21 points. First 12 teams make up the field. The Aiken-Augusta Men's and Women's lacrosse teams are looking for athletes with or without experience in the sport for the spring season, which runs from January through May. More information: coach Curt Gary at (706) 733-4271.


The Aiken County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and the Aiken County Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m., at the Aiken County Recreation Center, Highway 1, Graniteville. The meeting is to determine interest in an Aiken County Youth Sports Association. Representatives of youth sports groups such as baseball, football, tennis, soccer and basketball are urged to attend. Road races

March 14:

22nd annual Triple Crown Road Race, a 1998 Palmetto Grand Prix Circuit race, in Aiken. There will be 10-mile and 2-mile road races, 1-mile and half-mile fun runs and a tot trot. More information: D.J. Barnhill, 1 (803) 642-7761.

Feb. 12: The Columbia County Recreation Department will hold an adult softball meeting on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at Patriots Park's main office.
