Reservations are open for a family weekend at Windy Gap, a 1,000-acre camp run by Young Life in the North Carolina mountains near Asheville.
It's first come, first served, but anybody is welcome to come, said Joe Davis, director of Young Life of Augusta, a nondenominational outreach for high school and middle school youth. About 175 students are active in four area chapters.
The event is offered March 13-15. the cost is $80 per student or adult and $40 for children age 3 to 11. There's no charge for children younger that 3.
Half the cost is due at the time reservations are made with the balance due upon arrival, he said.
Windy Gap offers horseback riding, indoor and outdoor basketball, beach volleyball, tennis, flying disks, golf, GT racers, a ropes course, zip line, climbing walls, game room, swimming pool, hot tub, snack and gift shops.
Cabins are dormitory-style, men sleep with their sons and women with their daughters, he said. "There are a couple of duplexes for families with young children."
Allen Levi, a guitarist and vocalist, will perform Saturday night. "He is a songwriter who does a great job bridging the gap between adults and kids," said Mr. Davis. There will be skits and a talk to present the gospel.
The hope is to get families together to have fun, build relationships and memories. "It's one of those things you have to experience to see how much fun it is," he said.
