Cotton Row Cafe has made some additions to its menu.
The Riverwalk Augusta eatery has added lightly breaded shrimp, ribeye and chicken dinners to its regular burger fare at lunch and dinner.
"The customers really liked it," manager Dorie Newman said, "so we decided to add it to the menu."
Cotton Row Cafe -- not to be confused with the Cotton Patch on nearby Cotton Lane -- is known for its handmade, 6-ounce hamburger patties and salads, Ms. Newman said.
he restaurant tried serving machine-made patties for a while, but the customers didn't like them, she said. The handmade patties result in thicker, juicier hamburgers.
The cafe began serving in 1989, nine months after the Riverwalk opened. It has a bar and meeting room that owners boast has been visited by golfing greats Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Larry Mize, Ian Woosnam and Phil Michelson.
From January to March, the cafe closes at 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It's open as late as 11 p.m. on weekends. The restaurant kicks off its late-night hours on St. Patrick's Day, after which it stays open late all week for dinner.
Most customers come to the cafe for a casual evening.
`It's a fun, relaxing place," Ms. Newman said.
But occasionally, some tuxedoed patrons pop in for a quick bite or drink before rushing off to the opera for an evening out, she added.
