The Greater Augusta Sports Council is searching for coordinators and volunteers for the various sports that will be part of the Georgia Games Championships in 1999 when they come to Augusta.
Tammy Stout, executive director of the Greater Augusta Sports Council, is looking for experienced people in badminton, bowling, field hockey, roller skating, team handball, weight lifting and wrestling. Volunteers are needed in any area, Stout said, with about 2,000 to 2,500 required, and a data base for recruiting volunteers has been started. Stout is also looking for those interested in public relations.
The Georgia Games are scheduled for July 22-25, 1999 in Richmond, Columbia, Burke and McDuffie counties. Approximately 10,000 area amateur athletes are expected to participate in the first Georgia Games held out side Atlanta. The Games will be held July 16-19 this year in Atlanta.
A meeting for potential chairpersons will be held on Wednesday at the Augusta Rowing Center's boat house at 5:30 p.m. Nick Gailey, executive director of the Georgia Games, will be on hand, and a local Georgia Games volunteer director will possibly be introduced.
