We have failed yet another battered and abused woman. I am referring to the recent death of WFXA disc jockey Irene Shields. My heart goes out to her family and especially her children.
This woman reached out for help in so many ways and did all she knew to do to protect herself from her accused abuser, yet it was not enough. How many women are going to lose their lives in such a manner before something is done?
We, as a society, have got to start listening to these cries for "help" and act upon them -- and not wait until a tragic murder occurs, such as in this case.
