Your recent article, "Big and baggy," (Dec. 2) on the wide-leg jeans compels me to write.
In years past, the black "boyz of the hood" tried to emulate Mr. B., Sammy D., Billy D., or the Godfather himself, James B. Never in my life did I think I would see them wearing britches like Stepin' Fetchit or Lightning of Amos 'n' Andy fame. The britches are so big it looks like a family of wombats just moved out.
This also goes for those white, red-neck crackers who once wanted to look like James Dean, John Travolta or even the King (Elvis), instead of like Jester Lester plowing that mule on Tobacco Road.
Parents had better take charge of their children's lives and install some family values and self-esteem in them because they are our leaders of tomorrow. If parents cannot do this, may Yahweh have mercy on our souls!
