New adaptation of classic is filled with holiday spirit

About 40 players from Stevens Creek Community Church will stage a Victorian version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol with an evangelistic flavor.

Performances of The Gospel According to Scrooge are at 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday, with a matinee at 3 p.m. Saturday, at Stevens Creek Elementary School, 3780 Evans to Locks Road.

The familiar ghosts of Christmas past and present have disappeared, said Todd Sturgell, director of programming.

"In this one, it is angels. At the end he realizes he is a Scrooge, and he ends up giving his life to Christ and becoming a Christian."

The play is an adaptation by the Jesus People, a Christian production company. "It is a musical drama, kind of like a Broadway presentation," he said.

Christmas medleys and some new music will be presented.

The production is free, but tickets are required because seating is limited, he said.
