Two men were shot in a drive-by shooting in south Augusta Wednesday afternoon that led to the arrest of one of them after police discovered he was carrying crack cocaine.
David Palmer, 43, and his nephew, Rodriguez Palmer, 23, were standing among a group of people at the corner of Meadow and Post streets at 3:45 p.m. when shots were fired from a gray Toyota Celica with tinted windows, said Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Scott Peebles.
The younger Mr. Palmer was shot below the elbow in his left arm, and the bullet passed through. He was treated Wednesday night at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.
His uncle was grazed in the back by the bullet. After being treated and released from the hospital, the elder Mr. Palmer was taken into custody by sheriff's officers and charged with drug possession for carrying crack cocaine. The exact amount of the drug was not immediately known, Investigator Peebles said.
