Castigates officials for `foolishness'

Forrest Gump said, "stupid is as stupid does." You would think he had seen Augusta's human resource director, fire chief, and county attorney at work. These intelligent "rocket scientists," in their infinite wisdom, seem to have some real problems with what is known as, "common sense." Most reasonable people can tell you that to allow a fire official -- whose duties include plan review, inspections, and fire investigation -- to continue in such a sensitive position after announcing to run for a Commission seat is foolishness.

To add insult to injury, and underestimating the intelligence of the citizens of our fair city, our brilliant county attorney rendered the opinion that L.A. Williams, the candidate, "could just fail to show up for work and see what happens." (And for this advice he gets paid the big bucks!)

Unfortunately, a few overpaid, high priced bureaucrats again dropped the ball. Mr. Williams did the right thing, and in good faith attempted to avoid even the perception of a conflict of interest by properly requesting a leave without pay. Even his opponent admitted that. ...

Maybe if Mr. Williams is elected he can help return a common-sense approach to the many issuesfacing our city. Certainly, we have had enough bad decisions, no decisions, and knee jerk reactions from current officials.
