ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Georgia has the weekend off after a workout Friday to prepare for the Southeastern Conference opener against South Carolina on Sept. 13.
The Bulldogs played each other in practice before coach Jim Donnan dismissed them. They'll return to the field Monday.
"Since we don't play this weekend, we really went through a game-type practice," Donnan said Friday. "I thought we taxed the players pretty hard."
Donnan hopes the weekend is restful for starting running back Robert Edwards, who suffered a sprained ankle on his first carry against Arkansas State last weekend when the Bulldogs led off the season with a 38-7 rout.
Edwards has missed practice the past week to receive treatment.
"We feel very confident that he's going to be able to play, based on what our doctors and trainers have told us," Donnan said. "How much he can play, remains to be seen."
The Bulldogs and Gamecocks square off at 3:30 p.m. in Sanford Stadium next Saturday on national television.
