The July 6 editorial "Aiken Co. taxpayers' burden" contained several statements which deserve correction.
The editorial states 38 new positions were added in the 1997-'98 budget. In fact, 35 new positions were added and 3 were deleted for a net increase of 33 positions.
The editorial also states more than 120 middle-to-upper level managers did not receive a raise for the second year in a row. The actual number of employees whose pay exceeded the established pay tables after implementation of the five percent adjustment is 29 employees, of which 13 are in managerial positions.
The editorial further states Council members attend 18 meetings a year. Council members are required to attend a minimum of 30 meetings a year, including committee meetings plus an unspecified number of special called meetings and others required to attend to county business.
