Marsh Benson has been promoted to senior director of golf course operations and development at the Augusta National Golf Club, and Brad Owen has been promoted to golf course superintendent, Augusta National chairman Jack Stephens announced on Wednesday.
In his new position, Benson, 42, will assume responsibility for long-range planning and grounds development, as well as continue to be responsible for golf course programs at the site of the annual Masters Tournament. Benson came to Augusta National as superintendent following the 1989 Masters from Jennings Mill Country Club in Athens, Ga.
Owens, 33, is a graduate of the Penn State turf program and came to Augusta National in 1986 to serve a college internship. He returned in 1987 and was named assistant superintendent in 1988. The Banner Elk, N.C., native will be responsible for the daily maintenance of the course.
