How about telling it like it was. The headline in the July 1 sports section said, "Yankees slip past Glavine." No way! Mr. Glavine pitched outstanding ball until Braves manager Bobby Cox sent in Mike Bilecki as a reliever. Mr. Bilecki gave up the hit that won the ball game -- not Mr. Glavine.
It happens all the time. A pitcher could pitch his heart out for seven or eight innings and Mr. Cox decides to send in one of his bullpen pitchers Ä he doesn't have a decent one there Ä as a result they give the game away.
Your headline should have been: "Cox gives another game away."
