Protests demagoguery of liberals

There they go again! The liberals are out in force with their time tested weapons of deception, dishonesty, distortion and demagoguery. They tell us, "Republicans are starving and killing your children, poisoning your water and dirtying the air we all breathe."

After inflating his resume by designating himself "an old adversary" of state Rep. Robin Williams, R-Augusta, Tom Shepherd (letter, June 26) launched a groundless attack on U.S. Rep. Charlie Norwood, R-Ga. (Have you ever noticed that liberals never attempt to document their outrageous charges?)

Rep. Norwood, Mr. Shepherd says, has been working against the Energy Department, against the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, against the Education Department, and against the Environmental Protection Agency. Well, I would certainly hope so! Think about it. Every agency Mr. Shepherd mentions, under Democratic rule has turned the tables on you, the American citizen. You serve them, they don't serve you.

Now comes the tax cut bill and endless liberal whining. They complain that Republicans excluded millions of lower-income and welfare families from the $500-per-child tax credit that taxpayers get. Who but a flaming liberal would demand a tax cut for people who never pay taxes? Where should the money they would give away come from?

U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., asks, "What do Republicans give the mother who has left welfare to work at a minimum wage job?" The truth is the mother has given herself something more valuable than any politician can ever bequeath; self respect. A tax cut is not about the government giving anything, it's about taxpayers keeping a little of their own.

Democrats actually believe it's impossible to underestimate the intelligence of the American voter. Let's show them that they are wrong!
