WIMBLEDON, England (AP) - Pete Sampras and Martina Hingis are the favorites of British bookmakers to win Wimbledon. After the two top-seeded players, the betting field is wide open.
Britain's two biggest bookmakers - Ladbrokes and William Hill - each list Sampras at 13-8 to win his fourth Wimbledon title in five years.
Hingis, the 16-year-old who won her first Grand Slam this year in the Australian Open, is listed as a 4-6 odds-on favorite by William Hill. Ladbrokes has her at a slightly less favorable 5-4.
William Hill has defending champion Richard Krajicek at 6-1 followed by Boris Becker (13-2), Goran Ivanisevic (7-1) and Mark Philippoussis (15-2).
Ladbrokes has the same four players listed behind Sampras but at different odds and in a different order - Becker (7-1), Ivanisevic (7-1), Krajicek (7-1) and Philippoussis (8-1).
Among the women, the William Hill odds are: Hingis (4-6), Monica Seles (4-1), Jana Novotna (8-1), Iva Majoli (10-1), Amanda Coetzer (14-1), Arantxa Sanchez Vicario (14-1) and Lindsay Davenport (16-1). American Venus Williams is 100-1.
The odds from Ladbrokes: Hingis (5-4), Seles (3-1), Novotna (9-1), Majoli (12-1), Sanchez Vicario (14-1), Davenport (16-1), Conchita Martinez (25-1) and Mary Pierce (25-1). Williams is 80-1.
