Jabs Kay Allen over onerous fines

I would like to thank you for your April 14 editorial. I had a lot of response from family, friends, and co-workers.

Columbia County Tax Commissioner Kay Allen's rebuttal (letter, April 20) seemed directed toward my character and not the point at hand. The first three years my taxes and insurance was handled by my mortgage company. The tax office was in direct contact with the mortgage company for the late fees. 1995 was the first year I paid property taxes out of my pocket.

The 1996 taxes were late because of an article in the newspaper sometime in November stating Richmond and Columbia County taxes were due by November 30. All of this information was included in my letter to (County Administrator) Steve Szablewski, but evidently made no difference.
