Lakeside student with perfect SAT scores named STAR student

Priya Shete, a senior at Lakeside High School who scored a perfect 1600 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test, was named Columbia County's STAR student Thursday.

The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program selects a senior from each of the county's four public high schools and Augusta Christian and Augusta Preparatory Day schools.

"It's really exciting. It's an honor," she said, adding she scored the perfect score last Spring as a junior.

The banquet, sponsored annually by the Harlem Woman's Club, honored seniors with the top Scholastic Aptitude Test Scores.

Each student selects an outstanding teacher, who influenced his or her academic development.

Priya, who named English teacher Charles Heywood as her STAR teacher, will represent the county in district contest in Augusta April 3.

þ Cameron Carlsen from Harlem High School; his STAR teacher is Pamela Kitchens, an English teacher.
