Photo - Caboose gets new home

An out-of-commission caboose, shown here, finds its new resting place as two cranes lower it onto tracks near the Midland Valley Public Library on Wednesday morning.

The caboose, which was donated by Norfolk Southern Railroad, will have a complete renovation as it becomes a reading room for children.

The caboose will be an added attraction to the library, which was a depot before becoming a library.

At left, Jerry Hall, crane superintendent, and Jeff Murray, both employed by Carolina Cranes of Augusta, watch closely as the caboose is lowered onto the tracks.

Carolina Cranes donated the use of two of its cranes to move the caboose.
