Re the Jan. 1 letter by Susan Winstead, "Chafes at use of `Army brat' term":
I am a 70-year-old "Army brat" and am very proud of it. I was raised in the old Army which was different from now.
I was born in an Army hospital and hope to die in one. We went to school in a large Army truck with a guard standing on the back step to keep us from standing and falling. We Girl Scouts marched behind caissons to the funeral of a soldier.
"Army brats" are a distinctive group.
