Business briefs - problems found in online service

Problems found in online service

WASHINGTON - A weak corporate structure, including too much control in the hands of senior managers, contributed to the near-collapse of the National Association of Realtors' online information service for real-estate agents, according to a recent Ernst & Young audit.

The audit of the Realtors Information Network, the company once charged with developing and operating the proprietary online service, found "significant deficiencies" in internal financial controls.

The service nearly ran out of money after spending $13.5 million on development and operation. RIN now has entered a joint venture with RealSelect, a newly formed company based in Los Angeles.
