For a group of Augusta-area pranksters payback meant two free trips to Los Angeles and $100,000.
Keith and Wanda Evans, who live in Evans; Dan Wilson of Hephzibah; James Young of Grovetown; and Stephen Brown of Belvedere, were the $100,000 winners on Sunday night's episode of America's Funniest Home Videos.
"I just figured the most I was going to get out of it was one free trip to California," said Mr. Evans, who submitted the prize-winning video of a prank played on Mr. Young during a hunting trip to Burke County a year ago.
In the video, the friends send Mr. Young, who is afraid of the alligators in the pond near the group's clubhouse, into the darkness to retrieve a knife that was left on a table outside.
Before he can reach the table, Mr. Young is startled by a fake alligator that darts in front of him. In the video, he runs and stumbles, trying to get away from the inflatable beast that his friends rigged to frighten him.
"He made a comment during the video that we could have given him a heart attack," Mr. Evans said, "But now he's laughing all the way to the bank."
The friends, who already won $10,000 on the program, beat out eight other finalists Sunday, including a man who was fondled by a kangaroo and a young beauty pageant contestant who said Hillary Clinton was the president.
