Six-run sixth leadsto Bombers win

COLUMBIA - A six-run explosion by Capital City in the bottom of the sixth inning wiped out a 3-0 Augusta lead on Thursday night and led to the Bombers' 7-5 victory over the GreenJackets.

Augusta started strongly against starter Octavio Dotel, with Morgan Walker driving in a run in the first inning.

Stan Schrieber walked in the third inning and went to third on Elton Pollock's single, scoring on Dotel's wild pitch.

Sergio Mendez singled after one was out in the fourth and scored on Wiklenman Gonzalez's triple to right-center.

Terrence Long singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and scored on the first of four RBI doubles, this one by Jarrod Patterson. He scored on Bryon Gainey's two-bagger and the flood was on.

Jackets starter Ryan Young managed to get one out on a sacrifice, but a double by Carlos Soriano, a single by Enohel Polanco and another double by Tracy Edmondson did too much damage for the Jackets to overcome.

After Patterson socked a solo home run in the seventh to make it 7-3, the Jackets tried to come back.

Schrieber belted a two-run homer in the eighth and Augusta loaded the bases, thanks to two walks by reliever Andy Trumpour and one by the final reliever, Joe Lisio.

The latter collected a save when he struck out Freddy May.

Augusta travels to Columbus where it will play the RedStixx in a two-game stand before returning to Augusta against the Bombers on Sunday and Nonday.
