From Wire Reports

TV TONIGHT:

Holy hot rods! Batman's Adam West narrates a look at the movie industry's love of cars in such venerable vehicles as Bikini Beach (1964), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), The Love Bug (1969) and American Graffiti (1973). Hollywood's Hot Wheels airs at 8 on AMC.

In The Thinning of Hollywood Leeza Gibbons plays host to a report on ``the pressure to stay thin,'' a part of the Hollywood culture that may have gotten out of hand. Young actors David and Heather Tom tell of their personal experiences. It's at 10 on E!

WHO'S AFRAID OF Y2K?

When Allure magazine asked celebrities what they were doing on New Year's Eve, George Clooney said he'll greet that Y2K moment by ``drinking,'' and Jon Stewart plans ``to hide in the basement with some distilled water and saltines and hope it blows over.''

NEW LINE CINEMA

If you think men look gaudy in glitzy jewelry or flamboyant in fur coats, wait until you see them in suits interwoven with 22-karat gold thread. The Wall Street Journal reported recently that it's a micro trend in men's clothing and that some men are paying anywhere from $9,000 to $16,000 for gold-touched tuxedos and suits. The Paris shirtmaker Charvet offers ties with 24-karat gold streaks at $185. The toney tailor Brioni is selling a gold, silver and black millennium vest for $2,000 and custom gilded suits start at $14,000.

What's the deal? In these rich-getting-richer times, more costly is definitely better, fashion historian Carolyn Rennolds Milbank told the Journal.

EAU DE AUSTIN:

Austin Powers has his Mojo -- the name of a new eau de toilette. The fragrance is a blend of musk, citrus, verbena, leather and jasmine -- with a retro rush of patchouli. Each 4-ounce splash bottle features a floating image of Powers and is topped with a black cap. Suggested retail price: $22.50. Mojo is available at top retailers nationwide.

CANCER INFO ON WEB:

Two major organizations -- Cancer Care Inc. and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation -- have teamed up with Roche Laboratories to create a list of Web sites where patients and their families can find information on topics ranging from new drug trials to social support. The Focus on Oncology resource is available on a 3.5 floppy diskette for PCs with Internet Explorer or Navigator. The free software is available through Cancer Care by calling (800) 813-HOPE or the Komen Foundation at (800) IMAWARE.
