Munson to work high school championships Web posted December 16, 1997
Munson was scheduled to do play by play on the Class AAAA semifinals at the Georgia Dome last Friday and Saturday, but was ill and withdrew from those duties, GPTV said last Thursday. Herb White of GPTV talked with Munson on Monday and confirmed his participation, GPTV publicist Jennifer Hunt Dempsey said.
Munson will team with former Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman Jeff Van Note on the Class AAA final Friday at 7 p.m., between Burke County and Thomasville at Thomasville, Ga., and the Class AAAA final Saturday at 7 p.m., between Tift County and Parkview at Atlanta. Both games will be televised in the Augusta area on WCES-Channel 20.
The finals in Class A and Class AA will not be televised. Washington County visits Carrollton on Saturday at 8 p.m., in Class AA, and Irwin County goes to Manchester on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Washington County High quarterback Terrence Edwards, a 6-foot-2, 165-pound senior, has been named the Georgia recipient of the Gatorade Circle of Champions National High School Football Players of the Year award.
Ronald Curry, a senior quarterback and defensive back from Hampton, Va., won the national award. Curry, who is also a top basketball point guard, has said he will play at Virginia next season.
The South Carolina award winner was Rock Hill running back/defensive back Chris Hope.
The national award is based on an individual's overall athletic and academic performance throughout their high school career. There are 50 state winners and one from the District of Columbia. That group is narrowed to eight regional winners and then the national winner.
