SAVANNAH, Ga. - A southside youth pastor strangled his wife during a domestic dispute and then drove about 13 miles to dispose of her body, police said.

An autopsy revealed DeeDee Marie Golden, 35, died of a broken neck, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Wilson said.

Mrs. Golden's husband, Eric Brian Golden, 35, is being held at the Chatham County jail on one count of murder.

On Monday, a judge ordered Mr. Golden held without bond.

Police say the couple was arguing but have released few details, saying the circumstances surrounding the death are part of the investigation.

Mrs. Golden died between 10 and 10:30 p.m. Thursday in her townhouse in Berwick Plantation, Sgt. Wilson said.

Mr. Golden took his wife's body west on Georgia Highway 204, crossed about 500 feet over the Bryan County line, walked about a half-mile into a remote wooded section of Fort Stewart and buried the body in a 3-foot hole, Sgt. Wilson said. The area, which contained numerous wild boar carcasses, is primarily used by hunters.

Three days later, police learned about the homicide.

Mr. Golden told his brother-in-law Sunday that he had killed his wife, according to a police report.

The brother-in-law called police and told detectives Mr. Golden was driving to the jail to turn himself in, Sgt. Wilson said.

At about 1 p.m., Mr. Golden arrived at the jail with a letter confessing to the killing, the report says.

He later told detectives where he buried his wife.

Police found Mrs. Golden's body at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday after searching several locations, Sgt. Wilson said.

The couple's son is staying with his aunt, according to the suspect's mother, Earline Golden.
