COLUMBIA --- Devan Downey scored 21 points and Mike Holmes and former Josey standout Dominique Archie had double-doubles as South Carolina dominated Winthrop 86-63 Sunday.

The win was South Carolina's (2-0) largest margin of victory against the Eagles (1-1) since a 60-41 win on Feb. 18, 1991. The Gamecocks improved to 6-0 all-time against Winthrop, which fell to 2-19 against SEC teams.

South Carolina opened the game with a 19-0 spurt in the first 7:55. After going 8-for-16 from the field during the run, the Gamecocks closed out the half by shooting 6-for-24, including nine consecutive missed 3-pointers.

Holmes had 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds in his fifth career double-double while Archie had 12 points and 10 boards.

Justin Burton led the Eagles with 13 points.

CLEMSON 76, TEMPLE 72

In Charleston, S.C., propelled by another strong defensive effort, Clemson held on to beat Temple and win the Charleston Classic.

Clemson (3-0) led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but the Owls (2-1) cut the lead to two with 38 seconds to play. The Tigers combined enough free throws down the stretch and two critical defensive stops to hang on.

Terrence Oglesby led Clemson with 16 points.
