GUADLAJARA, Mexico --- Tournament host Lorena Ochoa moved up the leaderboard in Saturday's third round, but is still chasing Angela Stanford.

Ochoa had 2-under-par 70 and is at 2-under 214, or eight shots behind Stanford in the inaugural Lorena Ochoa Invitational. Ochoa is seeking her eighth victory of the season, which concludes next weekend with the ADT Championship.

Stanford has shot rounds of 69-66-72 at Guadalajara Country Club.

She's one shot ahead of Annika Sorenstam (67 on Saturday) and two clear of Katherine Hull (66).

Ochoa was tied for 23rd after an opening 71 and then tied for 24th after a second-round 73. She's now tied for 13th place.

Stanford has two victories in eight years on the LPGA Tour. One of them came this season, when she captured the Micro LPGA Classic in September.

Q-SCHOOL: Major Manning, Richard Johnson and David Robinson survived the second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament and are headed to the finals in December.

Golfers with local ties failing to advance were Jay Mundy, Stephen Poole, Dane Burkhart, Kevin Kisner, Scott Brown and Alex Hamilton.

Manning, a former Augusta State golfer, was in the top-five after every round at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla., and finished tied for fourth after a closing 1-under-par 71. The top 20 advanced.

Johnson, another former Jaguar who was a rookie on the PGA Tour last season, closed with 73 to finish in a tie for fifth place at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas, where the top 21 made it.

In Pine Mountain, Ga., Robinson, of Sandersville, Ga., had a final-round 71 and tied for 11th. The top 20 advanced from Callaway Gardens' Mountain View Golf Course to the finals.

Poole was tied for 11th place after three rounds at Hombre Golf Club in Panama City, Fla., but closed with 77 and tied for 36th place.

Also dropping out at two stages were Mundy (tied for 22nd after 71 at Southern Hills), Kisner (tied for 25th after 70 at Mountain View), Burkhart (tied for 33rd after 74 at Southern Hills), Brown (tied for 33rd after 69 at Mountain View) and Hamilton (tied for 45th after 73 at Hombre Golf Club).

Former Georgia All-American Erik Compton, playing six months after a second heart transplant, failed to advance by one shot at Southern Hills. He shot 73 to tie for 22nd place.

The final stage of Q-school will be Dec. 3-8 at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.

ASIAN TOUR: Chapchai Nirat of Thailand has a two-stroke lead in the Singapore Open, which was called because of darkness before roughly half the players could finish the third round.

Nirat had three birdies and an eagle in 12 holes to move to 9-under, two strokes ahead of Simon Dyson, Thomas Bjorn and Lam Chih Bingin in the Asian Tour event.

Phil Mickelson, who lost his No. 2 world ranking to Sergio Garcia of Spain last week, is 4-under through 14 holes, putting him four strokes off the leader.

"I'm happy with the way I played," Mickelson said. "I'll need to make a few birdies tomorrow as there are a lot of good players in front of me."

Padraig Harrington, winner of two majors this year, shot 66, also leaving him four shots back with Ernie Els, Rory McIlroy and Jeev Milkha Singh.

Lam, seeking to become the first Singaporean to win the $5 million tournament, said boisterous local fans inspired him.
