Lucky ticket holders for the 10th anniversary of WKXC-FM's Million Pennies for Kids Guitar Pull will see an amazing array of country music talent.
For the second year, the event benefiting needy children at Christmas will be held at the University of South Carolina Aiken Convocation Center, 471 University Parkway, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Tickets have been gone since they were put on the market, but the station is continuing to give some away through promotions.
Because this marks the 10th anniversary, here is a look back at who performed on past shows and where they were held:
1999: The first Guitar Pull was held in Sacred Heart Cultural Center. WKXC program director T Gentry knew he had a hit event on his hands and needed a bigger site. The 500 tickets went fast at $20 each. The Wilkinsons, The Warren Brothers, Doug Stone, Chely Wright and Michael Peterson performed.
2000: The event was indeed moved to a larger place, the Imperial Theatre. Gary Allan, Chad Brock, The Kinleys, Trace Adkins and Mindy McCready performed. Again, the tickets sold out fast.
2001: The event moved to the even larger Bell Auditorium, where it would stay for six years. Chely Wright and the Warren Brothers became the first repeat artists, joining newcomers Joe Diffie, Brad Paisley and Chris Cagle.
2002: The lineup was Lonestar, Trace Adkins, Cyndi Thomson, Mark Chesnutt, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Blake Shelton.
2003: Taking the stage this year were Rascal Flatts, Tracy Byrd, Buddy Jewell, Jimmy Wayne, Jeff Bates and Jessica Andrews. Mr. Bates, with his Conway Twitty-esque voice, pretty much stole the show.
2004: The unique slant for this Guitar Pull was that a WKXC-FM contest winner opened the show. That honor went to Greg Austin, of Aiken, who unfortunately had to perform while half the audience members were finding their seats. The guest performers were SheDaisy, Daryll Worley, Dierks Bentley, Billy Dean and Trace Adkins (making his third Guitar Pull appearance).
2005: This show starred Billy Currington, Pat Green, Mark Miller and Gregg "Hobie" Hubbard of Sawyer Brown, Danielle Peck, John Berry and Trick Pony (Heidi Newfield Johnson, Keith Burns, Ira Dean).
2006: This Guitar Pull marked its last time in Bell Auditorium, with the guest stars being Rascal Flatts, Jeff Bates, Darryl Worley, Jason Aldean and Julie Roberts. It marked the first time the tickets were free.
2007: The event was moved to the even larger Convocation Center and featured Dierks Bentley, Blake Shelton, Jo Dee Messina, Eric Church and Van Zant. It proved Augustans didn't mind driving 20 or more minutes to Aiken for the show.
