To celebrate America Recycles Day, Keep Columbia County Beautiful will offer a household chemical roundup Saturday.
The public can take lawn and garden products, such as pesticides and swimming pool chemicals, to the Evans Government Center front parking lot, starting at 10 a.m.
"This is the first time we've ever had anything like this on America Recycles Day," said Jenny Hinton, coordinator of Keep Columbia County Beautiful.
Kitchen, bathroom and cleaning products, such as oven cleaners, cleaning solvents and toilet bowl cleaners, can be also recycled. Other recyclable materials also will be accepted for recycling. They include fluorescent light bulbs, cell phones and printer cartridges, Ms. Hinton said.
No paint, automobile fluids or other hazardous waste materials will be collected, she said.
"With the green movement coming through our area, we really wanted to expand on what we already accept," Ms. Hinton said.
The recycling center in the Evans Government Center now accepts cardboard on a daily basis and has opened a new collecting center at Reed Creek Park on Furys Ferry Road.
