'Short memory' helps Massaquoi bounce back

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Mohamed Massaquoi had just lost his second fourth-quarter fumble in as many receptions when Matthew Stafford offered a pick-me-up.

But Massaquoi wasn't in the mood for sympathy. He just wanted to get his hands on the ball again and have a chance to make up for his back-to-back mistakes.

"He's the most level-headed guy I've ever played with," Staf-ford said. "I was about to walk up to him and say something after the second fumble. But before I got there, he looked up at me and said 'I'm good.' I said 'I know you are and I'm going to come back to you, and you're going to make a big play for us.' The next play he makes a big catch and run."

Massaquoi followed through on Stafford's prediction with a 78-yard catch and carry to set up Georgia's game-winning touchdown in the Bulldogs' 42-35 victory against Kentucky on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.

"It was just a quick frustration," Massaquoi said. "I was frustrated after the fumble situation and I knew I was going to had to be composed and when I got back out there I had to be open. You've got to have a short memory. It was unfortunate to fumble those two times but it was another play and you just try to execute it the best that we could."

Massaquoi had a career-high eight receptions for 191 yards and a touchdown.

ANOTHER NEW MARK: Stafford completed 17 of 27 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. The 376 yards was the third time he'd set a career high this season and the second time he passed for at least 300 yards.

"Matthew had a big day, a career day for him," Georgia coach Mark Richt said. "He just battled the whole time through."

LINEMAN GOES DOWN : Georgia right tackle Justin Anderson left the game with a foot injury in the second quarter and did not return.

Richt said Anderson has Plantar Fasciitis in his right foot and his prospects for playing the rest of the regular season are questionable.

Anderson could become the third starting offensive tackle to miss a game because of injury this season.
